世界卫生组织23日在日内瓦宣布，将2008年世界卫生日的主题确定为“保护健康不受气候变化的危害”。

世卫组织总干事陈冯富珍女士在一份声明中说，气候变化将会更频繁地对公共卫生施加压力，这就需要把改善公共卫生放在气候变化议程的核心位置。人民的健康和福祉必须成为有效应对气候变化影响所作努力的决定性因素。

陈冯富珍还指出，全球应当合作以加强对传染病的监测和控制、水资源的安全使用以及紧急情况中的卫生行动。
